Tesla Recalls 4,000 Cybertruck Pickups Due To Issue With Accelerator Pedal

Tesla, the largest vehicle manufacturer in the United States, is voluntarily recalling nearly 4,000 Cybertruck vehicles due to a faulty accelerator pedal. This recall includes all 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured from November 13, 2023 to April 4, 2024.

The recall was issued because the accelerator pedal can get stuck, thus increasing the risk of crashes. This dangerous condition arises when high force is applied to the accelerator pad, causing the pad to dislodge and become trapped in the interior trim above the pedal. This condition can cause the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally, therein increasing the risk of a collision.

The cause of the defect is an unapproved change in the lubricant (soap) used to aid in the component assembly of the pad onto the accelerator pedal. The residual soap reduced the retention of the pad to the pedal. If the driver attempts to apply the accelerator pedal, the condition will be detected through immediate compromised performance and operation of the pedal. Additionally, the driver will receive an audible and visual alert that both the brake and accelerator pedals are being pressed. If this condition occurs, pressing down on the brake pedal will stop the vehicle and cut drive torque.

Through the recall, Tesla will replace the accelerator pedal assembly to meet specifications and ensure sufficient retention force between the pad and the accelerator pedal to prevent the pad dislodging, at no cost to the owner.
