John Deere has issued an urgent recall affecting over 160,000 compact utility tractors, urging owners to “stop using them immediately” due to a critical braking defect. This recall encompasses the 1023E, 1025R, and 2025R models, all easily recognizable by the iconic “John Deere” logo on the hood and their vibrant green and yellow coloring. These tractors, which come with both opened and closed operator stations, were sold in the United States from November 2017 to July 2024, with around 148,000 units involved. This defect poses a serious risk to the public, as it has resulted in the loss of braking capabilities, leading to injuries for three individuals thus far.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) emphasizes the importance of taking immediate action. Owners of the affected models should check their tractors against the recall list and contact an authorized John Deere dealer for a free repair. This recall is a significant event in the utility vehicle industry, as John Deere controls over 50% of the market with their products.
