Playground Merry-Go-Round Recalled Due to Dangerous Crush Hazard

On December 26, 2024, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall for BCI Burke Inclusive Orbit Merry-Go-Rounds due to dangerous crush hazards. The Inclusive Orbit Merry-Go-Round is a spinning playground designed to accommodate up to six children, and features three handrails and a seat. According to the recall, the hazard arises from the space between the rotating platform and stationary outer rim, which can leave a gap that narrows too much, posing a crushing risk to children.

Recalled model numbers include 560-0042 or 560-0051, which include hundreds of Inclusive Orbit playground merry-go-rounds sold in the U.S. from April 2019 through October 2024. According to the recall notice, the merry-go-rounds are manufactured by Playdale Playground LTD in the United Kingdom, imported by Wisconsin company BCI Burke Company Inc., and sold through factory representatives to entities such as municipalities, schools, and churches.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission labeled the recall as a “Fast Track Recall” to help remove the product from the marketplace as quickly and efficiently as possible. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled merry-go-rounds and contact the owner of the equipment, such as park directors or school principals.
