Possible Delta Airlines Explosion: Two Dead and One Injured

On Tuesday, August 27th, two workers were killed and a third was severely injured in a serious incident at Delta Air Lines’ Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The accident, described as a “possible explosion,” occurred in Delta TechOps’ wheel and brake shop.

According to Delta TechOps and first responders, the incident involved an airplane tire and its components, which were being disassembled for maintenance. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion and seeing workers fleeing from the scene. Emergency responders found three Delta employees on the floor, with medics working to control “major bleeding,” as detailed in the Atlanta Fire and Rescue Department’s incident report. Two of the workers were pronounced dead by emergency responders, while the third sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has opened an investigation into the accident.
