Around 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 15, 2024, law enforcement officials responded to a motor vehicle collision involving an 18-wheeler in the south side of Houston, near South Sam Houston Tollway. Responding officers believe the cause of incident was due to the 18-wheeler driver attempting to avoid the silver car that allegedly ran a red light. The officers reported that the 18-wheeler still struck the silver vehicle and then crashed into a power line, resulting in significant front damage to the 18-wheeler’s tractor, extensive damage to the silver vehicle, and loss of power in the nearby shopping strip and neighborhood.
Witnesses nearby observed both drivers seriously injured. One witness working near the scene of the incident helped drag the 18-wheeler driver out of his truck. Officials report that both drivers were transported to the hospital for their injuries and stated that the driver of the silver vehicle was in critical condition. Immediately following the incident, local businesses and a neighborhood were left without electricity due to the damage to the power lines. Some businesses were left in darkness and had to close for the day, while others attempted to retain business by leaving doors open with “cash only” signs.
