Seven Dead, Two Injured After Head-On Collision in Carrizo Springs

Around 4:40 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, a head-on vehicular crash occurred in Dimmit County, approximately eight miles northeast of Carrizo Springs. Police officials say that the crash occurred when the driver of a black Chrysler 300 was driving at a high rate of speed, lost control of the vehicle, veered onto the wrong side of the road, and collided head-on into a red Dodge pickup truck that was traveling in the opposite direction. As a result of the collision, the Chrysler rolled into a ditch and became engulfed in flames.

The driver and three passengers of the Chrysler, along with the driver and two passengers of the Dodge pickup truck, were pronounced dead at the scene. The only survivors, two children who were also passengers in the Dodge pickup truck, were airlifted from the scene to a hospital in San Antonio to be treated for their injuries. The extent of their injuries is unknown. According to the DPS, the crash remains under investigation.
