Hit-and-Run Cameras Give Hope to Victims

A driver was recently placed in custody after a deadly hit-and-run crash in northwest Harris County, Texas. Investigators reported that a man and his girlfriend were walking along the 6000 block of Addicks Satsuma Road around 1:15 a.m. when they were hit by a black Kia. The man was killed, and the woman remains in the hospital, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Although the driver of the black Kia attempted to flee the scene, deputies were able to track down the driver less than two miles away from the incident by using FLOCK license plate reading cameras that were posted in that particular area. The woman, although badly injured, was able to call law enforcement and give a description of the vehicle that hit her and her boyfriend.

Hit-and-run incidents frequently occur in the Houston area, and many victims of these crashes believe they have no ability to pursue a claim because they were not able to get the information of the hit-and-run driver. However, with the implementation of FLOCK license plate reading cameras, which are being installed more and more throughout the greater Houston area, just being able to give a brief description of the vehicle with license plate numbers may help police track down more perpetrators and allow more victims to pursue the claims they are entitled to pursue.
