The U.S. Consumer Product Safety has issued a warning regarding fire and burn hazards associated with Charmast portable power banks, which contain lithium-ion batteries. These batteries have been found to overheat, potentially igniting and posing serious risks to consumers. Due to the dangers presented by these faulty portable power banks, Charmast has issued a recall for over 480,000 units.

The recall comes after the company received 44 reports of incidents involving the power banks expanding, igniting, melting, overheating, or emitting smoke. There have also been four reports of consumers suffering burns or blisters as a result of using these portable power banks.

The recalled Charmast power banks were sold exclusively on Amazon from December 2018 through September 2024. The potential hazards posed by defective lithium-ion batteries in these devices, and generally are particularly concerning because of the highly combustible nature of these batteries, which can overheat or even catch fire without warning.
