Family of 17-Year-Old Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Energy Drink Distributor Following Fatal Cardiac Event

McAllen, Texas (April 7, 2026) – Managing Partner Benny Agosto Jr., Partner Lena B. Laurenzo and Sr. Associate Ben Agosto III of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner, together with Damian C. Orozco of Orozco Law Firm, in Pharr, Texas, are representing the parents and the estate of 17-year-old Larissa Rodriguez. They have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Glazer’s Beer and Beverage, LLC and Glazer’s Beer and Beverage of Texas, LLC, alleging that the companies distributed a dangerously formulated and inadequately labeled energy drink that led to their daughter’s death.

The lawsuit alleges that the energy drink contains 200 milligrams of caffeine per 12-ounce can—double the maximum daily amount recommended for adolescents—and includes additional undisclosed quantities of stimulant ingredients such as taurine and guarana.

It further claims the product was defectively designed and marketed, with inadequate warnings about serious cardiac risks. Despite being promoted as a “better-for-you” wellness beverage and heavily advertised to young consumers on social media, the labeling allegedly fails to disclose the combined effects of its stimulants, provide safe consumption limits, or warn that the product may cause cardiac arrhythmia, cardiomyopathy, or death—particularly in minors.

“This is a heartbreaking and entirely preventable tragedy,” said Managing Partner Benny Agosto Jr. “No family should have to bury their child because of a product that was aggressively marketed as safe while failing to adequately warn about its dangerous effects. Companies have a responsibility to protect consumers—especially young people, and we intend to hold them accountable.”

Laurenzo, Sr. Associate, Ben Agosto III, Damian Orozco of Orozco Law Firm, and the family will be available at a press conference on Wednesday, April 8th, at 2:00 p.m. to answer questions regarding the lawsuit.
